Obituary for Martin A. Yavorsky
Martin A. Yavorsky, age 92, of Donora, PA, died Sunday, September 13, 2020, at Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Twp., PA.
He was born July 23, 1928 in Donora, the son of the late Michael and Anna Yavorsky.
Martin graduated from St. Dominic Parochial School in Donora in 1942, Donora High School Class of 1946, and the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950.
He was drafted into the army during the Korean War and served actively from February 7, 1951 to February 6, 1953.
Martin worked for U.S. Steel in Donora until 1966 then in Pittsburgh until 1970. From 1970 until 1981, he worked as an engineer for the Bureau of Construction and Maintenance in the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare.
On August 22, 1953, he married Ann Zewe Yavorsky who preceded him in death on March 10, 2005.
In addition to his parents and wife, Martin was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret and a brother, Paul.
Survivors include a sister, Ann of Finleyville; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Thursday, September 17, 2020. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Friday September 18, 2020 at 11:30 AM followed by a 12:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish Donora Campus.
Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela, PA
In order to be compliant with the new "norm" of Covid-19 restrictions, attendance will be limited to 25 people at any given time inside the funeral home. Guests are asked to obey social distancing guidelines and personal protection guidelines which include masks within the funeral home. Guests may be asked to limit their visitation times so that all visitors will have the opportunity to pay their respects. Thank you.
