Obituary for Alan Armand Alvarez

Alan Armand Alvarez, 77, of Mars (Adams Township), formerly of Donora, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Paramount Memory Care, Mars, PA.

Born in Monongahela on February 21, 1943, he was a son of the late Gavino and Ereda (Parenti) Alvarez.

A Veteran, Alan served with the National Guard and was a member of Dutilh United Methodist Church in Cranberry. Alan lived in Donora for 56 years. His work as a blast furnace engineer took he and his wife Nancy to Hamilton Ohio for 7 years. Alan and Nancy moved to Mars (Adams Township) to continue his career until his retirement in 2009.

Alan served on Donora Council from 1972 to 1979 and was Council President during the last two years of his term. He also held many local, county, and state appointed positions.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Dominick (Arlyne) Vince; and his in-laws, John and Jane (Morgan) Nemish.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Nancy Jane Nemish Alvarez; two daughters, Laurie (Douglas) Herold of Mars (Adams Township), Holly (Brett) Holmes of Tomball, TX; two granddaughters, Morgan Jane and Lindsay Joy Herold both of Mars (Adams Township); and four grandsons, Ayden Alan and Brennan Wood, and Mason and Logan Holmes of Tomball, TX.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second Street Extension, Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, (724) 379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2020. A service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Gascoine officiating.

Interment will follow at Monongahela Cemetery, Monongahela, PA.

In order to be compliant with the new "norm" of Covid-19 restrictions, attendance will be limited to 25 people at any given time inside the funeral home. Guests are asked to obey social distancing guidelines and personal protection guidelines which include masks within the funeral home. Guests may be asked to limit their visitation times so that all visitors will have the opportunity to pay their respects. Thank you.
