Patricia Ann (Patty) Hormell (81) is now in the arms of her loving Father. She died Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Mon Valley Care Center surrounded by her devoted family.

She was born on February 20, 1936, daughter of the late Lloyd and Hilda Anders Hormell. As a graduating member of the Donora Class of 1953 she proudly served on all reunion committees. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by brother-in-law Richard Luciani Sr. and sisters Carol Jaszemski and Kay Streets. She is survived by sister Lee (Luciani) Dorow and husband Jim of Monessen, PA, sister Jean Warren and husband John of Eucha, OK, brother Lloyd Hormell and wife Carolyn of Allen, TX, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and special friends.

Patty was a lifelong resident of Donora and a faithful member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church, where she served in many capacities. Not only was she an Elder, Deacon and secretary, she also wrote a monthly newsletter, was a member of the Choir and the Bell Tone Chimes, and taught Sunday School beginning at age 18.

Patty retired from Mon Valley Hospital on September 1, 2010 after 47 years of service. While employed at Mon Valley Hospital, she served as a chairperson for the United Way Campaign, chairperson for the hospital’s Scouting for Food Program and she was chairperson of the hospital’s Annual Kennywood Picnic for 21 years. In 1993 she was awarded the Edward J Protin Award.

In addition to her years of service at the hospital, she was also a member of the American Cancer Society Mon Valley Board and participated in the Relay for Life Program. She worked on the Valley’s United Way Allocation Committee, was past president of the former Donora Forecast Club, a member of the Donora Ministry and Layman Advisory Board, Director of the Donora Ecumenical Vacation Bible School, member of the Donora Ecumenical Choir and a member of the Rostraver AARP where she did the monthly newsletter. As a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she served as Worthy Matron in 1981 and served as Mother Advisor for the International Order of Rainbow for Girls in both Donora and Monessen.

Patty was a very loving, caring and generous person whose smile would light up the room. She would help anyone in need and will be greatly missed by all.
