Obituary for John J Kotlensky

John J  Kotlensky
John J Kotlensky, age 88, of Donora, PA, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Twp., PA.

He was born July 5, 1928 in Forward Twp. the son of the late Walter and Helen (Opatkiewicz) Kotlensky.

John was a loving husband who adored his wife. A loving father of eight children, he took the time to teach them important things of life and most of all to “Be Humble”. His children are all talented and attribute this to his teachings.

He was employed by McGraw Edison which was later purchased by Cooper Electric where he retired as a tester.

He was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Church in Donora and their choir, Ephiphany of Our Lord Choir, West Newton Choral group,and the former Catholic War Vets. John was a Scoutmaster in the area for many years and touched the lives of many youth in a positive way. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years.

John was a veteran of Korea serving with the U.S. Army.

John was very proud of the fact that he was inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame for the 1945 Donora Dragon Football Team on which he played tackle.

In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by a son John Timothy Kotlensky.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years Theresa (Amati) Kotlensky; seven children, Bernadette Kozen, Belinda Lehman, Mark Kotlensky, Gloria Keller, Tom Kotlensky, Mary Boyd and JoAnne Nagy; 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Buono and Dorothy Wolfe; a brother, Dr. William Kotlensky; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, November 27, 2016. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Monday November 28, 2016 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Valley Church at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Fr. Pierre M Falkenhan as celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Dominic Cemetery, Donora, PA
