Obituary for Mary S. Olivieri

Mary S.  Olivieri
Mary Olivieri, 87, of Donora PA, died Tuesday January 27,2015 in Castle Shannon, PA

She was born on September 4, 1927 in Donora, PA the daughter of the late Joseph and Domenica Olivieri.

Mary graduated from Donora High School in 1945 and received a Library Clerk Certificate from the PA Rehabilitation Center in Johnstown in 1973. Until 2014 she lived in Donora, when at the prompting of her nieces, she moved to the Baptist Manor in Castle Shannon to be nearer to them.
Mary worked in the former Olivieri’s Restaurant in Donora, owned by her brother Gary, for several years and also as a bookkeeper when he owned a beer distributorship. She was a Library Clerk for 36 years in the Donora Public Library until she retired in 2009. During this time she was voted Miss Donora. An avid reader herself, Mary was passionate about encouraging children and young adults to read. She also worked many years as a home companion for the infirm, often on a volunteer basis. Mary was an active member of Donora Community Center and St. Philip R. C. Church in Donora which merged into Our Lady of the Valley Church. She was a member of the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary and the Christian Mother's and Women's Guild. She met monthly with her fellow high school classmates for lunch. She loved to meet new people and to solve word find puzzles.

Mary was preceded in death by her sisters Della DeFrancisco and Angela Angeletti and brothers Gary, Peter and Dominic Olivieri.

She is survived by loving nieces and nephews: Linda Gimbrone, Lucille Koprowski, Lora Angeletti, Anthony Todora, Armand Olivieri, Philip Olivieri, Angelo DeFrancisco, Robert DeFrancisco, Dr. Lance DeFrancisco, Deborah Olivieri, Lisa Culley, Peter Olivieri, Gerard Olivieri, Joseph Olivieri, Francis Olivieri, Gregory Olivieri and Barbara Shuman. She also is survived by great-nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 www.massafrafuneralhome.com where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday, January 31, 2015.
Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Monday February 2, 2015 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Valley Church, Donora, PA with Rev. Fr. William Terza as celebrant.

Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, PA

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Our Lady of the Valley Church, Donora PA.

A rosary will be recited in the funeral on Saturday at 2:30 PM.
