Obituary for Sweda Nicholas

Nicholas Sweda age 91, of Monongahela, PA, died Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Nevaeh Cove in N. Charleroi, PA.

He was born August 29, 1923 in Monessen, PA and was the last surviving member of his family

He was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Church in Donora, the Carroll Twp. Fire Department, the Donora American Legion and the Black Diamond VFW.

He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Wyoming and later the USS Wisconsin. He received the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with five stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the WW II Victory Medal.

Nicholas worked for Giant Eagle as a meat cutter for 35 years and later as a driver for Mon Valley Health Center for 25 years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Bowen; two sisters, Lorraine Kernesky and Dorothy Frederick; and two brothers, Steven and Michael Sweda.

He is survived by his wife; Eleanor (Belback) Sweda; a daughter Cathy A. Bowen of Peters Twp.; a son Nicholas (Linda) Sweda of CT; four grandchildren, Lisa, Stephanie, Alicia and Ryan; six great grandchildren, Isabelle, Cameron, Cullen, Elle, Anne and Max.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Valley Church at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 4, 2014, with Rev. Fr. Pierre M Falkenhan as celebrant. All family and friends are invited to join us for this celebration of Nicholas's Life.

Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA
