Obituary for Alfred "Alfie" Ferguson Sr.

Alfred C. “Alfie” Ferguson Sr., 79 of Donora, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 11, 2018 in Monongahela Valley Hospital.

Born in Webster on January 31, 1939, Alfie was a son to the late William and Elizabeth Pemberton Ferguson. A former lineman for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 126, he retired from the IBEW as vice president. Following his retirement, he was currently working as a driver for SPHS in Charleroi.

Mr. Ferguson was very active in Calvary United Presbyterian Church in Donora and the Belle Vernon Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Tri County Masonic Lodge. He was an avid Penguins and Steelers fan. Alfie loved camping and traveling, but most of all, he loved his grandchildren and great granddaughter. Alfie was a one of a kind person with a heart of gold. It did not matter who you were or where you came from, Alfie would go out of his way to help you.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers John and Richard Pemberton, a special niece and nephew Sandy Pemberton and Joey Pemberton.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Jericho) Ferguson whom he married November 18, 1972; five children, Alfred Ferguson, Jr., Renee (Tom) Manges of Donora, William Ferguson and girlfriend Teresa of Donora, Joni (Roy) Frye of Donora, Vicki (Brian) Rodriguez of Monongahela, and Danna (Daryl) Miller of Monongahela whom he considered another daughter; five grandchildren, Brent Large, Alysha (Kevin) Berkavich, Courtney (Chad) Pierce, Bethany Manges and fiancé Michael Leech, and Breanna Rollins; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Pierce; a brother Arthur Ferguson of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second Street Ext., Carroll Township/Donora PA 15033, (724) 379-6900; where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2018. Services will be held in the funeral home Monday, October 15, 2018 at 10 a.m. with Rev. James Bailey officiating, followed by military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad at the funeral home. Interment will take place a later date. Tri County Masonic Lodge will hold a service in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
