Obituary for Mary (Tunon) Medina
Mary (Tunon) Medina, age 89 of Donora, PA, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2018. Mary was born on April 19, 1929, a daughter of the late Mr. Jose Tunon and Mrs. Josefa Garcia Tunon (both born in Spain and immigrated to Donora).
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Joseph Medina who passed away on April 28, 2006 and her son David Medina, who passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 2016, and four siblings Lola Gorski of Chicago, Eloine Bergman, Olga Sabo, and Manuel Tunon.
Surviving Mary is her son and daughter in-law, Ronald and Debra Medina of Rostraver, and her daughter and son in-law Melinda and Charles Swalin of Carroll Township, four grandchildren: Melanie Medina (Jason Salm), Michael Joseph Medina; Rachel and Alisha Swalin; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Tyler Salm, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was an avid reader, and she was deeply involved in the local and state Democratic Party. Later in life she came to love playing bingo and going to the casino with her son David. She loved caring and spending time with her four legged Corgi named Joey.
Mary also worked at Reed Jewelers in Monongahela, Diversified Health Care at the Day Care Center in Donora, and The Eagle's Nest at Bartolotta's Giant Eagle in Fisher Heights.
Mary's greatest joy in life was caring for and spending time with her family. Mary's greatest attribute was the devotion she gave to family members when they were sick especially her father and husband.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc., 40 Second Street extension, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 where the family will receive friends Monday, July 2, 2018 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday July 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Fr. Robert Hanna officiating.
Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
Mary's family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Donora Public Library.
