Robert W. "Beau" Turnbull, age 93, of Donora, PA, died Monday, June 26, 2017, at his mountain retreat in Rockwood, PA.
He was born December 2, 1923 in Pittsburgh the son of the late Robert W. and Christine (White) Turnbull.

Beau was a veteran of World War II serving as an Aviation Radioman in the U.S. Navy.

Beau worked the night shift on the Donora Southern Railroad until the mill closed in 1960. He worked as a metallurgist at Jones and Laughlin in Pittsburgh until retirement. He then did electrical work, painting, building for many in Donora. In his spare time, he, with his son Bob, built a cabin in the Laurel Mountains where they fished and hunted throughout the years. Recently, he spent his mornings at Gallifa's preparing orders for pizzas and subs. He worked to the end.
Beau loved Donora and belonged to many of the organizations in town. He was a Mason, a member of the Lions Club serving as president for a term. He was a scout leader and taught many of Donora's youth industrial arts as well as swimming. He was a member of the BPOE and served as treasurer for over 27 years. He played golf with the men's group and shot his age at 90. He was also a member of the Croatian Club where he bowled and played eucher. He knew most of the people in Donora. He always said, "I was born here, and I intend to die here."

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Reata (Hehir) Turnbull; a daughter, Nancy B. Turnbull; and a brother, Richard Turnbull.
Survivors include his three children, Christine (Francis) Ryan of VA, Robert Turnbull of MD, and Deborah Turnbull of AK; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Dennise) Rullo, Robert (Karina) Turnbull, Timothy (Heide) Ryan, Dean (Christy) Turnbull, Molly (Robert) Allred, Alexandra Lesko, and Christopher (Rebecca) Turnbull; and ten great grandchiuldren.
Arrangements are being handled by Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, June 30, 2017. Funeral service will be at Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 1, 2017, with Fr. Robert Hanna officiating.
