Alexander  Sanchez
Alexander Sanchez, age 89, of Pittsburgh, PA, formerly of Donora, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at The Haven at North Hills in Pittsburgh, PA.

He was born In Cherryvale, KS on February 23, 1927 the son of the late Joseph and Delphina (Alvarez) Sanchez.

Alex retired from U.S. Steel after 40 years of service. He was Co-Owner along with his wife of Teresa's Candies for 25 years.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.

He was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Church in Donora, and its St. Vincent DePaul Society and Holy Name Society, the Mon Valley St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Donora Knights of Columbus Council #1941.Alex was a member of the Spanish Maroons soccer team and the Rinky Dinks Softball team, Donora American Legion and the Spanish Club.

Alex also coached Little League Baseball and the Traveling Soccer Team in Donora.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son,Lawrence J. Sanchez; a sister, Isabel Meeker; three brothes, William, Fernando and Joseph Sanchez; and an uncle Julio (Happy) Sanchez.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years Teresa (Lombardo) Sanchez; a daughter Becky (Phil) Scibetta of McCandless Twp.; four grandchildren, Lawrence J. Sanchez Jr., Christina Sanchez-Eisaman and husband Jerry, Nicholas Scibetta and Krista Scibetta; a daughter-in-law Mary Louise "Lou" Sanchez of Donora; also several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033 where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, December 16, 2016. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Saturday December 17, 2016 followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Valley Church with Rev. Fr. Pierre M Falkenhan as celebrant.

Entombment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, PA

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations in his name be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or Our Lady of the Valley Parish
