Obituary for John "Chummy" Lignelli

John "Chummy"  Lignelli
John "Chummy" Lignelli, age 95, of Donora, PA, died Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Twp., PA.

He was born August 30, 1921 in Manown, PA the son of the late Frank and Minnie (Pasarella) Lignelli.

He was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Church in Donora.

Mr. Lignelli had built a long, distinguished career in public and community service which included 16 years on Donora Borough Council - 12 years as President of Council. In 1994, he was elected to his first of six terms as Mayor of his beloved Donora. In 1998, Lignelli was named “Mayor of the Year” in the state of Pennsylvania. In addition, Mr. Lignelli has served on several Boards in Donora as well as Washington County. When Mayor Lignelli retired in 2013, he was one of the oldest individuals to hold public office in the Commonwealth of Pa.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred "Midge" (Ostovich) Lignelli in 1993; his second wife Patricia (Johnston) (Enright) Lignelli in 2006; a daughter, Patricia Pykosh; a step daughter, Kelly Ghinassi; a sister, Lucy Carlow; and two brothers, Jim and Pete Lignelli.

Survivors include his son Frank Lignelli (Cia) of Olney, Md.; stepchildren Michael (Kellie) Enright of Carroll Twp.; and Colleen (Mark) Gibson of Monessen; son-in-law Henry Pykosh of Olney, Md.; five grandsons Frank and Kevin Lignelli of Carroll Twp.; Paul, David and Tony Pykosh of Olney, Md.; four step grandchildren Morgan Ghinassi of Monessen,; Eric Ghinassi of Arlington, Virginia , Marc Gibson of Monessen and Ali Gibson of Monessen; eight great grandchildren Jessa, Cassandra, John Carlo and Jackson Lignelli of Monongahela, Jack, Justin, Nicholas and Ryan Pykosh of Olney, Md.; three brothers, Lou Lignelli of Monongahela, Frank Lignelli of Clarion, and Rico Lignelli of Monongahela, also several nephews and nieces. In addition to the family members, Chummy is survived by very close friends Janie Ackerman of Donora, Jim and Cindy Brice of Donora, and Pati Amatangelo of Carroll Twp.; and a very special neice Nadine Bognar of Pittsburgh.

Arrangements are being handled by Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 where the family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, December 6, 2016. and from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Wednesday, December 7, 2016. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday December 8, 2016 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Valley Church with Rev. Fr. Pierre M Falkenhan as celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Dominic Cemetery, Donora, PA
