Dr. Valentino "Val" Rongaus, age 88, of Silver Lake, OH, died Saturday, October 1, 2016, at his home.
He was born August 22, 1928 in Donora, PA the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth "Elisa" (Roncace) Rongaus
Val served his country proudly as a member of the Army Air Corps from 1948-1951 being stationed on Guam for much of his service. He was discharged on July 31, 1951 as a corporal. Val graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He attended the College of Osteopathic Medicine & Surgery in Des Moines, IA and became a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 1962. Val was dedicated to his family and touched countless lives as a physician for more than 35 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Eugene Rongaus and Francis (Gooch) Rongaus.
Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer (Todd) Sawyers of Columbus, OH; two granddaughters, Fiore and Estelle; longtime companion, Deb Nowak; three nieces, Lisa (Mark) Worthington, Gina (Curt) Berchtold, and Christa (Gary) Velek; five nephews, William (Janai) Rongaus, Todd (Judi) Rongaus, Mark (Lisa) Rongaus, Lee (Patty) Rongaus and Neil (Marijo) Rongaus; a sister-in-law Patti Rongaus; and several aunts, uncles and cousins
Arrangements are being handled by Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 where family and friends will be received on Friday, October 7, 2016 fro 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Saturday October 8, 2016 at 9:30 AM followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Valley Church, Donora, PA with the Rev. Fr. William Terza as celebrant.
Interment will follow at Monongahela Cemetery, Monongahela, PA
