Obituary for Mary Doris Luci (Cicconi)

Mary Doris Luci, age 93, of Vienna, VA, died Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Regency Care of Arlington in Arlington, VA.

She was born May 21, 1923 in Donora PA, the daughter of the late Pietro and Francesca (Micconi) Cicconi.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Luci Sr.; two sisters, Pieta Cicconi and Jean B. Males; and four brothers, Frank Cicconi, Peter Cicconi, Domenic Cicconi and Louis Cicconi.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane K. Luci of Germantown, MD; two sons, Ronald R. (Kathy) Luci of Monessen and Philip (Pam) Luci Jr. of Vienna, VA; Grandchildren Jason R. Luci, Vincent L. Luci, Jessica J. Luci, Amy Williams, and Jarrod (Jodi) Lape; Great Grandchildren Alexis Lape, Ashley and Annikah Williams, Ryann and Reese Lape.

Mary loved playing Bingo, Rummy Cube, Trivia, and Bridge and particularly enjoyed working puzzles with her friends. She was a member of the Rosary Prayer Group at the Washington House in Alexandria, VA.

During World War II, she worked in Baltimore, Maryland as a “Rosie the Riveter” for the Glenn L. Martin Company,an aircraft manufacturer.

After the war she married Philip Luci, Sr., a World War II Army veteran. They had been married for nearly 50 years prior to his death in 1999.

Mary was very active in her hometown church, both her children’s, and grandchildren’s local schools, and many charity organizations over the years. She was a member of the Donora Croatian Club Women’s Bowling League, Washington County Democratic Party Committee, and St. Philip Neri Church Altar Society.

A devoted and beloved mother and grandmother, she helped to raise her grandchildren Jason, Vincent, and Jessica while their parents worked.

Arrangements are being handled by Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 where family and friends will be received from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday July 6, 2016 . Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday July 7, 2016 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Valley Church, Donora, PA with Rev. Fr. Pierre Falkenhan as celebrant.

Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, PA
