Loving best friend to adopted schnoodle, Molly. A life-long resident of Washington County, Pennsylvania, Mr. Chromulak was born, raised and spent his business life in Donora until retiring in 2010 and moving to his daughter’s home in Meadow Lands. Ever smiling, always gregarious and unfailingly friendly, Mr. Chromulak felt blessed to have the skillful, compassionate medical professionals and caregivers who came to be his friends at Arden Courts of Jefferson Hills. A veteran, Mr. Chromulak served in the U.S. Army medical corp during the Korean War. Often called “Mr. Donora Lumber”, Mr. Chromulak eventually became an owner of the company he first went to work for out of high school and which remained his business passion until he retired at the age of 80. His business acumen was recognized by his peers in the retail lumber and home center industry by his election as chairman of the board of a national building products consortium during the 1980’s. He served on the advisory board for Armstrong Ceiling and Flooring and was active in the Mon Valley Home Builders Association. Ever civic-minded, Mr. Chromulak’s life-long dedication to community was evident by the many boards on which he served. Mr. Chromulak was elected to the Board of Education for the Donora School District in 1960. In 1964, seven school districts merged into the current Ringgold School District. Mr. Chromulak successfully ran for office five times and was honored by the Pennsylvania State Education Association in 1984 after 23 years of service. He also was elected to the Mon Valley Area Vocational-Technical School Board and served as a member for 13 years. Mr. Chromulak was also elected to the Washington-Greene-Fayette Counties Intermediate Unit I School Board which had responsibility for programs designed for gifted students, special needs students and other programs needed by the school districts of the 3 counties. Mr. Chromulak served for more than 15 years as a member of the Washington County Industrial Development Authority. He also served on the Washington County Public Assistance Board; the Pennsylvania Public Assistance Board; the Mon Valley Career & Technology Center Professional Advisory Board; the Camp Fire Girls Association Board; and the Donora Public Library Board. Most recently, Mr. Chromulak served as the Chairman of the Washington County Transportation Authority (a/k/a Washington Rides) and represented the Borough of Donora on the Mon Valley Sewage Authority Board. An avid sports fan, Mr. Chromulak regularly attended local high school events; enjoyed season tickets for the Steelers, Pirates and Pitt basketball; and faithfully attended the Indianapolis 500 for more than 50 years. He was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Donora where he served many years as an usher and an officer, and received a deanery award in 1984 for his service to church and community. Mr. Chromulak was a member of the Knights of Columbus and on the board of directors of the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Monessen. He provided assistance and advice to many churches of all denominations with their building and remodeling programs. Mr. Chromulak was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Mary Chromulak of Donora; brother Joseph Chromulak of Donora; brother Stephen Chromulak of Monessen; sister Mary (Chromulak) Sopko of Trafford; sister Anna (Chromulak) Bagay of Carroll Township; sister Helen (Chromulak) Tokach of Donora; and sister Margaret (Chromulak) Varga of New Providence, NJ.
