Obituary for Anthony Albert Japak

Anthony Albert Japak passed away on May 16, 2014 at the age of 91. He was born in Bartlesville, OK on January 1, 1923. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Francine Flower Japak; his parents, Peter and Hattie Japak; brothers, Walter and Stanley Japak; and sisters, Minnie Lesovic, Josephine Kaspick and Mary Romanosky. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy, his children, Brian of Winter Park, FL, Barry of Carrollton, OH, and Joyce Saftner of Holland, OH, their spouses, JoAnne, Kathy, and Don Saftner, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was very proud of his family. They were his heart and soul. He was the person who helped with all our troubles, decisions, and never failed to help. He was always there for us.
Tony served his country with honor and distinction during WWII as a bombardier. He married Dorothy on February 5, 1945 in New York. Tony was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Donora, PA, serving on the vestry and on several committees. He was also a Boy Scout leader while he lived in Fellsburg, PA. Tony worked as a supervisor for U.S. Steel in Donora, PA and Canton, OH. He had moved to Sylvania, OH to be near his daughter.
Friends will be received on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 . Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Monday May 19, 2014 at 9:30 AM. followed by a Funeral Mass in St Mary's Church 509 Sixth Street, Charleroi, PA 15022 with Fr. Robert Hanna officiating.
Internment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Ebeid Hospice Residence, 5340 Harroun Road, Sylvania, OH 43560.
